97 E420 Secondary air injection

Guys I have a problem that is running me in the ground. My air injection pump cycles way to much and I keep getting the famous code P0410 and I don't know which way to turn anymore. Could someone offer a suggestion.

Does it start and stop after the engine is to operating temp-----or is your thinking only before operating temp!!

First thanks for the reply. It will run on first start up like it should but after driving I will still here it cycle from time to time. I have looked at the data on my scanner and the coolant temp sensor seems to have a normal reading but I did notice that my long term fuel is around 14 which is way to high but the short term is around 0 to -1. Got any ideas because I am chasing my tail on this one.

I am not going to guess at what engine you have therefore if I am to help I would appreciate you posting the VIN.

PS: There is an issue. The secondary air injection pump should not function when the engine is up to tempature---why????

What I don't understand is. as you say. the pump comes on while driving and at over 40C----the only logical reason, to me, is that although the dash temp is correct the ECU is either not reading the correct temp signal or the temp sensors signal is erratic---however the ECU is also reading the pedal sensor position and then you would have an implaussable situation which would not turn the pump on!!----very starnge!!

Are you sure that the pump comes on at over repeat over 40C

PS:Just above the pump there is change over valve 001 540 86 97 and a pressure sensor 011 542 06 17---they do not start and stop pump, but---------

Now I am sure you see my frustration with this thing. I have been a tech for 30 + years now and have work on these systems quiet a bit but this one has got me and its my own car of all things. Its just not making any sense and I was hoping maybe someone would be able to help me with this one. I did notice these couple of days past that the code stayed in pending until yesterday. when it set the hard code again. Any insight on which way to turn.
