I have a '98 E320 and with the original battery. I'm thinking that it's probably on it's last legs and should replace it before I get stuck this winter. I've taken a look at the battery under the rear seat and it is larger than any I've ever seen. Does it have to be replaced with a Mercedes battery from the stealership or does a Diehard work just as well. Anybody replaced one yet? Thanks!!

In short, no it is a larger battery than on most cars.
Last winter the battery died on me 3 times, the final stroke was when it died for the second time within a week. Lucky for me it was in the garage, I called Road Side Assistance, they brough the battery to me and installed it. I think the battery itself was around 120-150 and the service was free. Considering that a good regular size battery is around 80-90 and the battery on the W210 is larger that regular I decided it was worth it. Plus it came with a 2 year warranty, meaning if anything goes wrong with it, Road Side Assistance comes to your car replaces it no questions asked.

Can't beat that deal for a battery that lasts 6 years! Is RA for the life of the car?
