Fiberglassing Tips for subwoofer enclosure anyone?

Anyone have any tips on what type of materials to use and what to use to best protect the original carpeting while making a mold? What mat should be used or no mat, just fiberglass resin with hardener?

This is what I'd like to replicate...

I know some use tin foil and plastic bags, but what would offer the most detail in transferring the exact shape? I was thinking of covering the entire carpeted area with masking tape or duct tape. That way none of the fiberglass resin wouldn't stick to the original carpet.
