Door pin upgrade and a tip.

Did not like those cheap plastic door pins on my '98 E320, so bought a 'fancy' set to replace them. This new set included the ferrules (not sure what they are really called) to match, everything being polished stainless steel. Easy change, but then an unforeseen problem arose, they rattled while driving. Couldn't have that, so due to these pins having 'grip grooves' around the top, I picked up some O-rings that would fit and put one on each door pin, then adjusted the height of the pins so that when they lock the O-ring nestles down right on top of the ferrule, and WA-LA, no more rattles. And they look much better than the original plastic pins.

how easy is it to grip the pin when you're in the back seat and wanting to exit? can you
manipulate it easily...or with a gloved hand? I currently have smooth chromed, round
tops and when in the lock position, the top is flush with the surround, making it impossible
for passengers to let themselves out

Not easy Raymond, but they could be unscrewed a little too allow them to be used in that manner if needed. However, that would also allow them to rattle once again. The metal surrounds do look good, but one has to deal with the rattle that comes with them. Very rare for me to have anyone in the back seat, so being able to unlock by hand is not really an issue for me. And my power locks function as they should, so I don't have any problems with these, they look much better and function, so I am happy with them.
