W210 cabin charcoal air filter replacement
Found the instructions online and performed the swap. Not very difficult using the instructions in the charcoal air filter box; slightly easier by removing the carpets out of the way.
Seems the original filters were still in the car. Dates of manufacture were 4/Nov/1999 and 22/Dec/1999. The originals were looking rather sad...see photo of new versus old of one of the two filters.

i gutted my old style charcoal filters and poured in activated charcoal, replenishing
the contents every couple of years. purchased bulk from a colleague who works
for the CDC, the cost ends up being about $10
