Mid Muffler Removed!
Just want to share with the revheads around here that removing the mid-muffler really does improve acoustics and responsiveness.
A criticism of the W210 aftermarket sports exhausts that I have very often read is that they still sound very mellow. Apparently AMG exhausts sound quieter than the stock muffler (owners can confirm)! After removing my midmuffler, my baby V6 now sounds like its turobcharged and has more grunt - both in sound and actual power. Gear shifts are also more responsive. I believe it was US$100 well spent.

What if I remove the cat on my diesel? You can't hear any exhaust now as is.... I wonder how it woul daffect hp and torque curves with the reduced amount of backpressure. I know turbo diesels usually benefit from a really low exhaust back-pressure, but don't know if NA diesels would as well.

Try it, try it! If you don't wish to butcher and do permanent damage to the middle of your exhaust, do what Benz did - take it all off! It really does feel so much more powerful
BTW, I forgot to mention (but of course, it would have been obvious) that they needed to custom make a pipe that joins up where the muffler was but takes just a simple saw and weld job - all done in less than 1 hr - but this IS HK.
And BTW, why is it referred to as a "cat"? Is that the same as a catalytic covertor?

I had a "pillow looking thing" removed, so was that the cat or a muffler? IF it was the cat, does that mean I can use leaded gas now (if I can get it)?

... I do know if you remove your resenator and muffle your car will be much louder and perform better.

Unfortunately the car was back on all 4's when I arrived, besides I didn't have a camera. But I'll sure I take a pic when I get my shocks done

If someone has a pic of the bottom of an E I can point it out but according to Benz (and my mechanic) its the muffler which was castrated and the pipes rejoined.
Oooops were you talking to Benz BTW????? If you meant Benz, all had left were two pipes coming out of the bottom of the engine block (I'm sure I'd seen pics somewhere).
Had another drive today - boy does it sound so much better. Now its closer (but not as ricey) to my E36 with DTM exhausts -which I miss. Sounds very mellow on idle and only sounds mean when I rev it hard.....so the limo touch was not completely lost
