Hello guys. I have a 1997 Mercedes Benz E280 which developed an ignition problem and I was told by the Mercedes dealer that the only way to fix this was to replace the whole ignition system at a cost of US$2500. Another mechanic told me that if I find a similar car I can harvest its ECU, ignition system and keys and put them on my car and I will be ready to go which spunds like a great deal because online these second hand parts cost in the region of $350. i wanted to know if this is technically and mechanically possible to harvest the ECU, EIS & keys from one car and fit them on an identical car. The vehicle VIN number is 2100636A433151.

That will work, ONLY repeat ONLY if the harvested ECU and EIS and keys all come from the same car and that the ECU only comes from your model type.

If not ship the car to Gaza!!

Thanks for the response. When you say the ECU has to come from the same model does this mean the exact same model with the same engine capacity or maybe I can harvest from a E320 of the same year?

The harvested ECU must have either of these part numbers(NO SUBSTITUTES)

020 545 96 32

Remember this vehicle started out as a African CKD car
