w210 e320 idle issues

w210 e320 idle issues
im new to the forum today!
Ive got a 2001 e320 base model with almost 300xxx miles on it. first half of its life was in california all freeway miles ( not driven by me ) i took over the car at 250xxx miles here in utah. No rebuild, everything mechanical is bone stock.
now to the issue. over the past few months or 30xxx miles ago a rough idle began, and this is what ive noticed, idles rough at stop-rpms stoop down to 5-700 while in drive but stopped.
rough idle gets a little better if i put it into neutral while stopped, rpms rise to about 1000.
not sure if
engine mounts?
torque converter?? < probably not
injectors, spark plugs < doesnt seem to be missing and no check engine light
EGR/Vacum system< have had problems with it before.

A/C issues
I would like to stay away from professional diagnostics simply because they cost a right nut to take your car in and im very capable to do repairs on my own, just not sure where to start, maybe a little insight??
