power steering advice
I'm dropping the E off at my independent tomorrow, same guy that works on my 911. I called him Friday and told him the story. He's going to pump the bad/wrong fluid out and inspect seals. I'm guessing he'll have to do the seals, what's the ballpark estimate on a job like this? Take it one step further and give me the bad news, what's it cost for new pump and rack?

Power steering began howling Tuesday night while my wife was at her parents 70 miles away. MB doesn't sell tractors or snowmobiles, so she was even farther away from a dealership. Had her put non-mb fluid in as she reported the noise was pretty severe. When she got home, the car smelled hot and the noise was back.
So the damage is done, just want an idea what to expect.

They called and said $410 to redo seals and flush. We're all hoping that'll take care of it. We'll see.
Having the rear diff output seal done, $160. New serpentine belt, $100. Needs fuel filter and air filter, $210. Crack in the windshield reservoir and dash bulb replacement, getting quote.
I've got a cracked fog light to take care of then that'll hopefully do it for awhile...

Not too worried about it, nice to get these things fixed. I'm sharing the cost so others can see. I still really enjoy the car. I've been hauling the family around the state this holiday season in the m3, a job I was looking forward to the E managing. Eating up the highway miles would have been nice. I pick the car up tomorrow night.
btw- they misquoted me on the rear diff job. Apparently, the whole diff needs to be dropped in order to do the seal. They added on $100 for a total of $260. That's an hour off labor I believe so that's a nice break.
