strange misfire

My 97 e320 has developed a strange misfire. About a month ago it started misfiring when cold. When up to temperature if inwouldbshut the car off and restart then it would run normally. I took it to my wrench and we saw a misfire on cylinder 1. The coil was fairly new but aftermarket so we theorized it could be a defective coil since coils, spark plugs and wires were all changed 4 months ago.

So we left it at that as I did not have enough time to wait. Eventually the following week the car started running worse and eventually it misfiring hot or cold. I could tell that the misfire had migrated now to a second cylinder and sure enough we saw that 1 and 6, so a sure sign of the coil gone bad. So we changed it, the car run like a champ. I drive home, the next morning misfire again. Same symptoms. When cold it misfires, when I shut off and restart when at temp its fine with the occasional misfire.

Any thoughts were to look next?

Hi, I think you have a fuel related problem(s)and check the fuel pressure first and (or) replace the fuel filter depend on your mileage etc. I hope your engine don't have the timing chain noise or looseness. 003stars
