2000 E320 open to closed loop issues.

Hello All,

My 2000 E320 has a bit of a stumbling idle, feels like a small misfire but no codes. The stumble is worst going from open loop to closed loop. There is a small timeframe in which the engine will shake pretty good and when I engage drive she will hesitate and shoot forward. This point is only very short, if I would stop and try a few seconds after there is no hesitation at all. I am not sure if I feel the engine hesitate or the if the gearbox hesitates to engage.
Sofar I have renewed the sparkplugs, MAF, front lambdas, engine mounts and a host of vacuum hoses. All to no avail.

In general she runs nice although I have the feeling that up untill 2000 rpm's she is a bit underpowered, once at past 2000 rpm she will come alive and go.
Accelaration seems to go in steps, every 1000 or so rpm up I will feel a small surge in the accelaration, the higher the rpm the faster (relatively) she will accelerate. Meaning that the accelaration is not linear but stepped and more powerfull (feelable) per 1000 rpm or so up.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks,
Marc

Are you able to check "smooth running" with a scanner ? Sounds like you have a coil or leads playing up. If you check smooth running it will indicate which cylinder.

Need to check my scanner but do not remember ever seeing that option. Just replaced the engine temp sensor. The old one was nice and green. The new one reads a few degrees celcius higher and the engine seems to run a bit better. The old sensor ran at 80 degrees celcius on the freeway and the new one on around 85. Just a few degrees can make quite a difference in mixture. Idle is a bot more steady now. Let's have a few cold starts and see if it improves and holds....
