2001 E320 gets stuck in park!

2001 E320
2001 E320 gets stuck in park!
1. Went on road trip from Texas to San Fran
2. On the way back to Texas, gas cap wasn't twisted on tightly all the way from Palm Springs to Phoenix
3. Kept inside lights on for over an hour while resting
3.5 Son Spilled tiny bit of water on shifter console
4. Turned lights off, car took about 5 tries to start.
5. ESP/BAS light came on
6. Did turning wheel trick, light went off, but check engine light came on.
7. Next morning drove about 30 mile on highway.
8. Stopped, parked, came out 15 mins later, stuck in park.
9. Used pen trick to put in LHM mode
10. Thanksgiving weekend repair shops closed.
11. After hours of waiting, gears werent locked.
12. Accelerator was lagging a little
13. Got stuck again, then released while driving.
14. Please provide any knowledge on what is happening.
15. Listed all the factors, did get some codes from O reilys about 5 p07`s

2001 E320
Because it was late and I didnt have the papers on hand... so today my car has been running like nothing happened, not stuck in park. Then mid day the check engine light went off. Maybe because I refueled? Going to get oil chang tomorrow then resume my trip.

Probably two separate issues. Gas cap cause an error with the evaporative system and water spill glitched out the shifter. Water dried up (you're lucky) and gas cap tightented sealed the evap system. Keep fingers crossed
