Battery Repacement

Ive already done a search and couldn't find a thing...

Story:
Ive been starting her up every morning and the battery seems weak, barely starting her up. she's fine all day.
If i let her sit more than 24 hrs i need a jump. It won't be completely dead, just not enough to get her started.
So i decided to just get a new battery. Can i replace it with any battery? if not which one is best? or are there other alternatives?

Thanks in advance~!!!

Magic, I had a similar problem and had the local dealer service truck bring a new one, since I was stuck in a parking lot in January. IIRC, the battery lives under the right-side rear seat, and it is large. Your battery may just be giving up life. They don't last forever.

Plan on a $150 replacement, but that will get you a good number of years in my experience.

Good luck.

AdvanceAuto stocks them and it's the exact replacement as the MB battery. If you order it online and pick up in store it's usually 20% off. Don't forget to connect the plastic air vent tub to the new battery

Is the placement the same for the wagon?

What you describe sounds like battery failure. You could have a load test performed since it could also be the charging system.

MB dealer battery is about $170 installed onsite which includes old battery disposal and resetting any convenience features which have lost sync. Also, entitles you to 18 mos of roadside assistance and the technology is matched to your car. With good care (check the electrolyte level periodically) it should last 6-7 years.

Aftermarket battery is about $100 and should last 3-4 years.

You do the math.

Batteries have gotten more expensive. I doubt any dealer around here would replace for 170. Aftermarket batteries are closer to 160 and often are the identical battery. I wouldn't assume a dealer battery is of any higher quality then what's available,at Advance auto I personally have never stepped foot in a MB service center and probably never will.

Looks like I need one now. Mine will not take a charge. Advanced Auto has one for $142.99 with trade in. NAPA is $125.10 with core.

To a large degree, folks aren't always checking the battery to see if it's something
which can be repaired and will quickly drop a bundle on a new replacement.

If it is a lead acid, flood cell design, pop the caps off and check to see if the
fluid level is low. If so, fill to top of plates with distilled water. then, place
on 10 amp charger overnight. may even need 2 days of carefully watched
charging.

If no-maintenance, flooded cell design, you may not be able to remove the
caps, though sometimes you can carefully pry off and go through same review
as above.
DONT just check voltage. You should also check specific gravity of acid.
DONT just check static voltage. check under load as well
If AGM battery, you're only option is to try trickle charging overnight or more

If AGM spiral wound, same as AGM flat plates - only option is to try charging

If lithium variant, check with the cell's manufacturer as it can get complicated.

Check also with your employer. If they have an account with Interstate, et al,
you may be able to ride on their coat-tails in respect to their corp discount.
My employer uses Interstate so I can pick up 900 amp/hr replacement for $50

I learned from boating not to get sentimental with batteries. If it's older than 3 yrs and runs down or starts sluggish under normal use, I replace. 4-5 years I replace as a maintenance item

I'm frugal but I hate getting calls from my wife or kids that they're stuck somewhere and the car won't start. Besides the hassle for everyone, inevitably I'd end up paying more money than I need for a battery. For example right now if you google "Advance Auto Discount Codes" you'd find the code TRT30 gives you 30% off and an Autocraft Gold battery prices out at $120 if you order online and pick up at the store, Down from $164. In a breakdown situation I'd likely end up paying much more from AAA, or from a service shop.

Got new battery from Walmart for $123. I damaged the OEM battery exhaust vent tube elbow while inserting in the new battery so need new one:
