The diver's side headlight on my 1997 E420 has gone out, replaced the bulb, checked fuses etc and nothing has fixed it. Mechanic has said I will need to replace the control unit or the whole headlight assembly.

Is it possible to replace the OEM xenon headlight assemblies with OEM Halogens or after market halogens? Would wiring conversions need to be made? coding changes etc?

Also as far as after market halogens go are there any brand recommendations? I was looking at some Spyder Halogen projector headlights as a possibility.

I realize downgrading the headlights to halogen seems counter intuitive, but as far as cost in concerned it looks like the best option that this point.

sounds like you just need a new ballast not new headlightd.

Halogen housings should just plugin to the existing wiring, the xenon specific stuff is all in the headlight unit.
