Service reset won't work... my theory...
I have tried to reset the service reminder on my new-to-me '98 E320. I have seen two slightly different methods on youtube:
1) Key to position 2, press '0' twice, key to position 1, hold '0', turn to position 2, keep holding '0' until service reminder resets.
2) Same as above, but press '0' four times.
Neither of these work on my car. I am having other issues that lead me to believe that one or more of the door switches isn't working. In other words, it thinks a door is open all the time.
Can anyone verify whether or not you can reset the service reminder with a door (any door) open?

I've never found any MB documentation requiring the door to be closed BUT... it's a commonly held belief.
If you close all five doors does the overhead light stay on? That's a easy way to tell.
The correct procedure is:
1. Turn electronic key in steering lock to position 2.
2. Within 4 seconds press button 0 twice.
3. The present status for days or distance is displayed. Within
10 seconds turn electronic key in steering lock to position 0.
4. Press and hold button 0, while turning electronic key in steering
lock to position 2 again. The present status for days or distance
is displayed once more. Continue to hold button 0.
After approx. 10 seconds a signal sounds, and the display shows 10
000 miles (Canada: 15 000 km).
5. Release button 0.
If at any step of the way what should happen doesn't then start over. If may take a few tries.

Yeah, that doesn't work. It just resets my trip meter.
Anybody know the colors of the wires in the drivers door to jump in order to fool it into thinking it is closed?

Oops. For some reason, I thought the door switch was located in the door. Anyway, I checked all four switches and they seem to be working fine (using a continuity tester). At the hatch, I tried both unplugging what I believe to be the switch wires as well as jumping them. None of this has solved my problems.
I am thinking the problem could be in the dome light circuit board or the PSE. It seems like nobody around here is too familiar with the way this stuff works. If love to get my hands on some wiring diagrams. Google searches haven't brought up much that is useful.

SOLVED!
Turns out it WAS because it thought the door was open. The door switch is brand-new, but the door wasn't pushing it in far enough to actuate it. I taped a dime to the door where it meets the switch and everything started working -- the dome lights, door locks, and I was able to reset the service reminder.
