Suspension Change

I have a 97 E320 with 20 X 9 inch Lowenheart BS5's on it. It’s about that time to upgrade my older model to something a bit newer. I would like to get another W210 because it looks so beautiful and there isn’t another person in my stomping ground with anything that compares to mine. My problem is that the rims have never fit properly since I bought them. I would like to get something else and I would like to get another Mercedes but only if I can have these rims fit correctly this time. The inside rim of the front wheels rub on the upper control arms when you get the body rolling around corners. The biggest problem I have is that it is very irritating to hear the rubbing when you go to fast around corners. As for physical damage, all it has done is make a small mark on the control arms where it has rubbed. If I where to get another Mercedes, is there a suspension I can get to keep this from happening anymore or maybe a model that already will have what I need to allow these to fit right?

It all has to do with the offset. Whether you get another Benz or not, if the offset is wrong it will rub. Do your wheels currently stick out passed the fender? If not and you have a bit of room, you may try purchasing some spacers and longer bolts to pull the wheels out a bit more to stop the rubbing.

I agree, not easy but can be done if the offset is correct. The width of the wheels is also a big factor because some people have 9's in the front but on 19's not 20's. This one needs to be taken to a custom shop for a look at.

Yup, 9" in the front might be a little extreme. The control arm rubbing is a difficult one. Have you got some clearance on the outter wheel, maybe a spacer to push the wheel out a bit might do the job but the side effect is you may need some fender rolling or flaring. If I'm not mistaken, the Lowenharts normally come with about an ET38 offset which brings the wheel too far in, hence rubbing on the control arm.

IMO 8 1/2" with ET33 or ET31 even is the best fender alignment visually. Although my 8 1/2" (same factory as Lowenharts) came with an ET38 and did not rub, I put in a 5mm spacer to get more caliper clearance and a better fender alignment.

Hey Deucezero, you got a pic of your ride? Take a pic of the front fender alignment, may be it can be fixed.
