SRS LIGHT. and window wont close
I am considering a purchase of a 2000 e430 87k miles. I am doing a pre purchase inspection on monday but the car already has an srs light and drivers window wont close. Seller wants to lock in on a final price prior to inspection. Are these repairs major listed above. And what is good offer price. We are currently at $4800. Fyi: car is dirty. Needs a detail of epic proportion.

E430 conundrum
E430's are somewhat rare as opposed to the 320's which are stacked to the ceiling. If I were in your position I would low ball him ($2K cash, as is) and take my chances, assuming that you can do some mechanical work by yourself. If you plan to let a dealer do the work then it is likely that you will end up paying more for the car than it is worth (Premium condition about $7,500 and most at about $6K). The most common problem with SRS lights are 1) the seat belt receptacles, easy to replace, and 2) the child safety sensor in the right front passenger seat (about $450 installed by an upholstery shop). If the other windows work fine then it is probably the window motor which is about a 2-3 hour process with a motor from a parted out car.
430's are some of the mellowest cruisers around with great gas mileage and performance. I had mine doing 132 MPH the other day and I can guarantee you that they will do 140MPH. Overall, the most common parts to replace are the lower ball joints ($450).
