Question S210 Rear Suspension Issue

Hi all,

Just searching for some insight on chasing a rear suspension issue on a 1999 E270CDI Estate Avantgarde. First off, the suspension was sitting low on the driver's side and the ride was bouncy over bumps, so I replaced both rear accumulators with OEM units. The ride seems to be improved now, however, the rear suspension is now sagging on BOTH sides!

I have released all air from the system via the valve under the car, and the rear shocks do not appear to be leaking. The only other symptom is the power steering feels a bit stiffer than it probably should, and the vehicle does not raise when there is a load in the rear. There also does not seem to be a ton of pressure when opening the hydraulic lines. Maybe the power steering pump is not pushing enough pressure to lift the car properly?

ANY insight is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you are headed in the right direction. There's probably a spec for the pump pressure but measuring it probably requires a special inline adapter. Have you changed the filter under the cap in the hydraulic fluid reservoir? The system accumulates sediment and I suppose the filter could become clogged.

Thank you for the reply! I did check the filter and it is very dirty. However, I don't have a shop very close to purchase a new filter at the moment. Is it possible that a clogged filter could have such an effect on the whole system? It seems this is for the backflow into the resevoir...

Thank you again for your insight!

Your car has parameter steering, which provides additional power assistance to the steering. If your steering feels stiffer it may be that the parameter steering is off...and you only have normal power assist.
