1998 E320 Wagon
Question purchasing '98 E320 Wagon-strange color

Have found very nice used '98 E320 wagon with low miles and am seriously considering buying. Interesting though that the color of the car was not offered in the U.S. that year. I have been told that for $1000, a special order could be placed to the factory and you could get any color you want. I don't believe the car's been in a crash and the paint looks like factory work. Can anyone confirm that this special order option did in fact exist for E320's in 1998? Thanks.

Mercedes did NOT Offer a Paint to sample option in 1998

I would have the wagon inspected at a Dealer for a pre purchase Inspection...

Remove the rear cargo covers for the spare tire to inspect body color and Check the MB ID plate on the radiator cross brace
It WILL Have the correct paint code....

strange color

To Mark: Thanks Mark for the guidance. Color appears to be Imperial Red Exterior Paint Solid Color code 3582. This color was in fact offered on Model 208's in 1998 but not on the Model 210 E320 Wagons. Will be inspecting the car this Friday. Alternatively to what you have replied, a dealer in Houston and in L.A. both have told me that any customer with money not being an object could ask for a factory paint job and itcould be done as long as the paint was available on models at the same assembly factory during the model year requested. Anything else you could offer before I inspect the vehicle would be appreciated. Thanks.
