update on rocker panel

wanted to get the black rocker panel painted to match mywhite 97 320. anyways went to three auto shop and 2of the 3 advised against it. said it was rubber, the paint would not stick and crack and peel easily. one guy said, its more headache than what its worth. so for now wont be able to get updated look unless i put on side skirts.

007, there's hope bud. Mine ahd been painted for 4 years before I converted to an AMB kit - also white, no sings of major chipping or peeling. I beleive its only a matter of properly preparing the surface before painting.

Alternatively, you could splash out and get the MY00+ skirts.......you'd still have to pay for painting and mounting tho'...

Sorry James, dunno but I'll try to find out, it was the used car dealer I bought the car off that did it before they put the car up for sale.

I might just get a front lip for the stock front bumper. I am keeping my options open for now to see what comes along. I like the new Wald front lip.

this one is a lip? so it also replaces the vents? dang, i thought it was a full bumper all along, hence, very expensive........should look great with the rest of your set up and not so common, E-Klasse - go for it!

Make sure that you have the 4 rubbers seals that go in between the rockers panels and the body/fenders on all 4 corners. If you don't install them you will have an fugly gap there and it'll look crappy.

If you don't have them you can puchase them from the dealer for pretty cheap. Here is a pic. of where they go, The Doc needs them too...

Hey Jimmy, do your's line up/join with the one's on the door with very little gap in between? I'm not sure what it was like when I had the stock skirts (didn't pay much attention then) but when I had the AMG kit put on, I found the one's on the door slightly shorter, leaving a gap between where the rubber seals end at the door and the the corner (as you can see, the old AMG's didn't need the ones on the corner) - I'm wondering whether it was just crappy workmanship (my guy tells me they came like that )

Yeah, that little gap needs to be filled with the rubber seals that I am talking about. They are sold separately from the actual rockers and need to installed to fill all 4 gaps on all 4 corners of the rockers.

I meant the rubbers on the doors are slightly shorter (1/4-1/2") than the width of the doors themselves - are yours like that?

Oh, you mean the rubber weather stripping on the bottom of the doors? Mine were actually larger and were resting on the outside of the rockers when I closed the doors so I had to trim them down to make them look right.

Sorry, I'm so busy in Miami and trying to stay in touch as to what's going on in here that I guess I'm reading through these posts to fast and not getting them, lol.

No, I didn't have a problem with the width only the thickness of the weather strips. Sorry dude, lol...

Won't the stock rubber strips work on the new skirts? They look the same.

Sorry for the late response bro, been really busy. Anyway, $230 is little more than what they go for at the dealer but not by much. Now if they're already shaved, that a good thing so you don't have to go through the process of doing it. You can usually find the outside sections on ebay for like $50 bucks and then go buy the inner ones from the dealer. Then you'd probably be under $150 and then if you're handy with some kind of rotary tool like a dremel, shave them yourself.

Are you looking for the stock clear tops or E55 smoked? Let me know and I'll see if I can get you a deal down here and then shave them for you.

Thanks for the offer Jimmy but shipping's gonna kill it. The rear lights might have to hold a bit anyways cuz I just saw some really nice new wheels I might get.
