Mercedes sunroof stuck open ; resolved

Sunroof stuck open this morning and stayed open all day while at work; resolved the issue once I returned home.

Opened the sunroof on the way to work. Once there, it would not close. Left it open all day. I was worried it was the switch (replace the entire dome light assembly for $250 to $350). After arriving at home, I pulled the overhead dome light lens cover, and then used a 4mm hex-head bit and a ratchet to partially close the sunroof. Once I moved the sunroof a few inches, the switch would close it with multiple attempts (moving the switch to the position to raise the rear of the sunroof). I then reset the sunroof's position sensors using the methods mentioned in multiple posts. The sunroof now works normally.

Bottom line? Have the 4mm hex-head wrench available at all times.

I did. No joy. The sunroof was stuck fast. Took the wrench to break it loose.
