How much can insurance companies tell from examining the car?
If a fault happens and a message comes on the screen can they determine the time it happened when examining the car? Can they tell what type of collision happened? Or where it happened even?
So for example, if someone was to skid and hit a wall on the motorway, causing a dent and screwing up the car's steering and showing a message "ESP Inoperative" and traction control warning sign, could they tell the difference between that and let's say walking out of your house and finding the dent on the car and the problems with the car? Or perhaps the message and fault happening and causing the crash rather than the other way around?

Don't think W210 have such detailed memory and to access that level you need 38 pins, what not likely is going to happen with average insurance adjuster.
Yet you question sounds like seeking advice how to commit a fraud, so we have to proceed with extreme caution.
