How does the engine hold up? I know there was a diesel engine MB made in the 90's that was junk, might have only been in the W140's?
What were the E300 diesel's rated at for HP and torque?

Known issues for 96-97 are surging, I've never really experienced it.
Glow plugs can be fun to replace, rear window regulators, little things other than the glow plugs. Go to the forum I listed earlier and go to seach and type in E300 and you will find a lot of information. Good Luck!
