Mercedes w210 e430 coolant pump/fan scraping
Hello everyone!
Recently, my serpentine belt broke. I was quite shocked since I was very sure my belt was fine, it wasn't cracking or anything.
A little while later the belt broke and at first I thought oh maybe the belt has run what it was meant to run.
I then put on a new belt, without any issues, and started up the engine.
Within seconds, there was a burning smell.
Under closer review, it turned out that the old belt also burned to death. So I decided to inspect this new belt to be sure and it turns out that the blank side of the belt (the side that does not have ridges and touches only the coolant pump/fan) is the side that is burned.
I then opened up some area for me to touch around and discovered that something, surely metal, is touching that coolant pump, making it spin slower than it is supposed to. Meaning it is causing the belt to burn.
What I am trying to understand is.... WHAT the HECK could be scraping that coolant pump???
Any help would be amazing!
Thanks
Sajjad Ahmed

Out Of Control!!
This is very old, yet I will reply----sounds like the coolant pump is not running freely and the belt is dragging causing excess friction and burn---did you replace the pump or what did you determine to be at fault!!
