Take a look at this 16 yrs old never changed spark plugs & fuel filter!
I finally decided to do something about spark plugs and fuel filter that were never changed since we had the car for 16 years. (99 E320 135K)
Pretty nasty? The plugs were so hard to break loose and I used a 3 feet long pipe on my wrench and once broke loose, I had to use a pneumatic ratchet wrench to get it off. Some showed a signs of oil collecting in the hole. I found out the valve cover gasket seal is leaking (just the small cover one on top that has oil cap attached not the big one) Looks like this will be my next project.
Replacing the fuel filter was not too bad following the DIY instruction here. I got curios as to how bad it is and cut it open to see it. Nasty huh? Change yours if you haven't done it for a while....
Picture too small to tell, but they don't look worse that the plugs I took from W211 with 160,000 miles on it.
Bought the car with 147k and having engine running perfectly did not suspect the plugs could be original.
Mine plugs come of easy, but than the car is only 12 years old.
