Replacing ECU complete set with other Set

Hi,
I have W210 E220 CDI 1999 Face-Lift (right hand) sedan.
I have a technical question that can we replace ANY ECU part number of W210 CDI E220 Right Hand, along with complete set (ECU, EIS, Steering Lock, Key) with any other W210 CDI E220 Right Hand? will this work?

I shall be really grateful for your kind guidance.

Then you best have the best diagnostics and a good greaser that knows the system!!

Thanks a lot replacing TCU is a good advice as well....
