Grinding noise from gas door locking mechanism

When I lock or unlock my car from inside, I hear a grinding noise coming from the locking mechanism on the gas cap door. I also found that the door no longer locks when I lock the car. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on how to fix this?

Replace the lock.

The lock can get jammed up with the elements. Start out by cleaning the area off as best you can and lubricate the lock with WD40. If this works you will have to use a more permanent lubricant to keep it working.
