E320 LIGHT SWITCH GUM Question

Our 06 E320 has a lot of gummy 'stuff' on the dash surface of the light switch. MB said it was deterioration of clear coat. Which I think is stupid.

Adviser said they couldn't do anything but sand it and that would turn it black. He said they could replace the switch for about $600. I told them forget it.

I can't believe we have the only 06 doing this.

I got home and got some industrial goo gone and it cleaned up.

My question is can I paint it with clear fingernail polish to protect it.

Thanks

I had the same crap on the surfaces of my steering wheel controls, I just spent some time scraping it off with my fingernail. Problem solved.

A gaggle of MB's
Goo Be Gone can soften it up and make it easier

Any way to seal it to prevent it happening in future?
