2000 E430 4matic Auxiliary Fans " slow and off"

The short and sweet is small crack in radiator leads to replacement by local radiator shop. So the guy tells me my Aux Fans not working as should and could have caused the radiator failure. I don't want to replace the unit and find it something else. Looking at the fans, the passenger side fan is on but not really blowing hard, and Driver side fan is not spinning at all.

Any thoughts or just replace?

Thanks

First of all, please tell the bonehead, it is extremely unlikely that a fan failure will cause a crack in the radiator---I think it's the other way around bonehead is on crack!

FYI, the aux fans on your model only come on when the refrig temp and or coolant temp exceed a predefined level----also have you checked EPC to determine whether you fan is of the type that has a drive belt enabling both fans to spin at the same time.

My point is that the fan issue is totally separate from the leaky radiator---I would not let him touch anything other than the leak!!

A gaggle of MB's
If you have two fans - one is motorized and one is a slave-belt drive.. if one is "driving" and the other not moving.. then either belt replacement is in order - although not uncommon for the bearings to freeze up on the slave..

There are China knockoff replacement for the whole unit eBay/Amazon for under $150 which work fine.

I drove W210 diesel with no engine fan for about 4 years. Something Plutoe could never understand.
The front aux fans come on low each time AC is on and on high at about 95C.
You can test the fans by pressing climatronic buttons. Per my memory it takes pressing both Auto buttons for few seconds, but somebody confirm that?
