What is that connection for?

Today I pulled the rear interior panel in the trunk of my 99 E300 TD, to get to the DtoB connector and the power for my “new to me” CD changer. (Paid $191.00 with shipping on eBay)

While in there I found a few more plugs. One looked like it was to connect the Cell phone antenna in the bumper.

The other plug looked similar to a serial plug on a computer. 25 pin female. What is that connection for?

Just curious!

One is the cell phone antenna wire.
Useless, I believe, since it like would be for an analog phone (depending what year your car is).
THe computer pin is for the built in cell phone system.
You can actually tap into it to install an aftermarket cell.
Audi has the same system. Audiworld has instruction on how to do it.

I would be interested in an aftermarket cell phone system that would plug into my 99 E300 TD

Can you provide a direct link to instruction @ Audiworld? I believe phone kit for Audi should be twice cheaper.
