01' E320 W210 needs pads

My 01' pads might have gone bad. There is A LOT of brake dust coming from the front wheels even under light braking. Im afraid that I need new pads. I already had them replaced once last year in March at 22k miles. Its now 43k miles. The Brake Pad lining message has not yet come on in the Instrument Cluster. But Im thinking of replacing the pads and what do you guys / gals suggest (dont want to be a sexist). If I also have to replace the rotors, what do you suggest. Also, does the E320 01' have stock Brembo Rotors? Im not sure, but planning on replacing in the near future the way I drive.

Brake dust is not necessarily an indication of worn pads. If you are suspect have them checked. My 01 has 26000 on it and has about 40 percent pad remaining. Re rotors, its typical to need new rotors after a second set of pads. I would stay with the OEM rotors and pads. What sort of advantage will you get by changing. Do not believe you will get longer life.

I ask because some people have replaced the pads with porterfield R4-s brake pads.

From what I have been led to believe is that the aftermarket pads are made of a harder material and thus cause more wear on the discs thus shorter disc life. MB pads are softer, thus more dust but smoother braking and reasonable disc lfe.

Re: 01' E320 W210 needs pads

Call Phil at FastLane (www.mercedesshop.com) . He sells both OEM pad and upgrade pad.

I think Phil sells OEM pad for around ($40), 50% discount from dealer. He also has OEM rotor for around $100/pair.

You can buy upgraded pad (PBR Deluxe) for around $65. Best money I ever spent: car stops on a dime, doesn't harm rotor, and best of all: NO DIRT !!!.

If you do little research, you'll find out that pad for VW (Audi included), BMW, and Mercedes all manufactured by SAME company.

Go with PBR Deluxe, you will not regret.

I agree that the rotors will last 2 pad changes. But I believe you can get 3 sets if you go with Porterfields R4S.Ive been running them pretty rough, city and highway, and Im impressed.Almost no dust(what there is ,is very light colored)powerful feel without extra foot.
I too am considering drilled rotors when I change them, and the combo of Porterfield and Brembo should be excellent. My .02$.

On a few parts website I've seen some Zimmerman cross-drilled rotors, even for the rear!

I think it would be nice to have cross-drilled all around. I'll be doing my rear pads sometime this spring or summer so I'l try to get the Zimmerman rotors. Too bad I just changed my fronts rotors and pads begining of the winter to Textar pads. Not too impressed with them. I believe I had OEM pads, hence the MB star and part number on them before and they had excellent pedel feel. These Textar's feel a lot softer and not as strong :-(

Thats why I really like the Porterfields, they are always "strong",and the dust is gone.I'll do a post when I change them. They are a bit pricey tho.
