A/C compressor & brakes on 2000 E430

How difficult would it be for a novice to switch out an ac compressor and the take it to a shop to fill it with freon? I was told by a mechanic who use to work for MB Dealership it has to be reprogrammed on one of there machines before it can recharged. Can anyone recommend a good shop here in KC where I can have compressor replaced and system recharged? Any idea how much it will cost?
Also, my other question is this....my brakes seem to be skipping and pulsating whenever I have to depress them at 55mph or more. They don't do it at lower speeds so, could it be brakes and rotors or maybe the control arms and ball joints are bad and need replacing.

The AC compressor doesn't have any module in it that needs programming.
But you can't take compressor to the shop for recharge.
Whole system needs to be charged while on the car.
Don't ignore brakes pulsating issue. Inspect everything. Are the tires all the same brand/size?
Lift each wheel while blocking other side and turn each wheel by hand listening for scratching noise.

A gaggle of MB's
1) the cpmpressor - genuine Denso/new from a credible source will be under $300 - a Sanden (Denso clone) will be about $200 - again read compressor descriptions carefully for "new". You will also need to replace the "drier" and with that "drier" (which is updated part/style) you will need the updated drier hose as well. There are China/quasi-brand that will work. Check Belt tensioner - if "old" style, which can be common cause for compressor premature failure, if "old" style replace with new/correct style using "Conti kit" which is Litens-tensioner, new idler pulley, and fresh belt. It is Summer - but if your source right parts - any competent auto aircon shop can install and due evac/refill - right shop guesstimate $250.

2) There are "aftermarket" discs/rotors and pads - if that is the issue - with "right parts" any competent brake shop can do the work. Front end stuff is another story
