Horn not working
2001 E430 4Matic
Suddenly High Tone fanfare (for the rest of the world it is a horn) had stopped working. Low Tone never worked as far as I remember. No, it is not a fuse as it was checked and found not burnt. No, it is not a relay as it was replaced with genuine OEM ($20, less than probably testing would cost for a labor). Horn/airbag clock spring perhaps, but unlikely for the reason described below.
Car was sent to garage. Mechanic was unable to pinpoint the cause but removed the horn, clean the tabs and reinstalled it. He claimed that horn worked, but was very weak in sound. I drove the car home and used horn twice; it was a very anemic tuuut and then it went completely silent. Removed the horn, connected to the motorcycle battery; deadly silence.
Purchased another horn (ebay of course). Installed. Tried it 3 times; sound always laud and healthy. Tried for the 4th time: dead silent.
Had anyone experienced this.
Now, when you know all the details, any suggestions?
Thanks.

I had to replace high tone horn on latest purchase - 2008 with >160k miles.
The first horn I had to replace on several MB I had for the family.
I took it as "s**t" happens.
Tried to adjust the old horn, but as yours it was anemic. Pulled one from 20 years old MB and it works fine.
