Will this E55 Setup work?

I want to go with 19 inch wheels but I want the benefit of wider tires and not just stock widths of 245 & 275:

255/35/19 front
285/30/19 rear

The Overal diameter is fine. However, I wonder if the E55 is at it's absolute limits with the OEM widths of 245 & 275. Any thoughts. Thanks.

If you're going to go with 19's the best/typical setup is 245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear. I was also contemplating of going 285/30/19 rear but Vic55 told me that there will be fender rubbing(even though the fenders are already rolled for the e55). On the front stick with the 245/35/19's, 255/35/19 almost sure it'll rub when you make left or right turns.

What wheels are you thinking of going?

You'll be hard pressed to get that set up rolling as that is the 20 inch wheel set up on the W220's. I have always had 245 and 275 tires on my E55 but I did have 9.5 inch wheels in the front on the 245's and 10's in the rear. It was a crazy set up but it looked fine. The tire was fairly tucked too. Your fenders are rolled but with your desired setup your gaining an increased sidewall so you MAY rub but I am not 100% sure. Also do you really want the increased sidewall look?? Maybe on a large car like the 220 but not on the 210. Are you having traction issues??

I want to go 19. However, due to the bad roads I do not want to decrease sidewall as much with 245/35/19 and 275/30/19.

Going to 255/35/19 and 285/30/19 will not increase sidewall. I calculated the sidewall inches as:

245/40/18 3.9
245/35/19 3.4
255/35/19 3.5

275/35/18 3.8
275/30/19 3.2
285/30/19 3.4

Hey Kev I am not sure how exactly you calculated those measurements but don't forget to add in the increase in height which means the bottom and upper sidewalls. Per Tirerack if you get a Pzero Rosso in tire 245x35x19 your overall tire height is 25.9 inches while the 255x35x19 is 26.9 inches. While the Michelin XGT Z4 is .4 inches larger in the 255 version. I also believe these are the only two tires available in that size (I didnt check the measurements on the 285's) but these are not the best performing tires either. You may want to email Lee2375 to confirm the possibilities of the sizes you like. I understand too about the roads and the smaller sidewalls but you may hit your A-Arm in the front with the larger tires.

I speculate that the rare sizes - 255/35/19 and 285/30/19 will be available in more tires soon. Especially as plus-1 upgrades to the SL55 and W211 E55. The SL55 has 255/40/18 and 285/35/18.

I use this Tire Calculator to get the sidewall and other tire measurements:

I just posted a thread on the Tyres/Suspension forum regarding fitment of the 19" S/CL AMG Type III rims on an E55. Are there any fitment/rubbing issues?
Thanks
Stephen

Hey Stephen I have had no rubbing issues with my CL's at all. You do need to make sure the hubs are machined on the rims to match the hubs on the axle though. I also ran 10mm and 16mm spacers. The 16mm spacers look much better because they push the wheels right to the fender but still no rubbing and you maintain a hubcentric lock.
