notice i got some cooolant leaking 2 days ago...very noticeable...it does not leak when after drive...but when sitting for awhile, the leak is seen....what do you think is going on, hoses or something..have 97e320 with 85k...thanks guys.

 

Have you looked to see where it is leaking from? When you say it is noticeable, is it a large puddle on the ground. Have you check your hoses recently. If you only notice it after the car sits, then it might be on the low pressure side or return side. If it was a high pressure leak you would notice it when the engine is hot and you might smell the antifreeze or see steam.

I thought that I had a coolant leak once but it turned out to be washer fluid dripping out and forming a puddle on the front drivers side. Because I have the headlight washer option, there is the extra tank connected to the regular windscreen washer bottle. The hose between the 2 tanks cracked.

 

Don't forget that if it's just water and not actually coolant, it could be the condensation dripping off the AC...

inotice it onthe drivers side and the coolant amount is maybe half cup puddle is there..i see it dripping from the tray underneath the car. no steam or smell upon driving..my reservoir tank is full . i dont have wipers for the headlights .

 

Could also be the reservior wiper sprays also - had the same problem with my BMW before. Perhaps try putting a sheet of white paper below to see what color it is - if its clear, its probably just the spray. Another test, check your coolant level intermittently so see if it goes down quickly.

Do follow this up cuz if its the coolant and your car runs dry, the radiator will blow before you know it and it would be $$$$$$.......good luck James.

BTW, the headlight cleaner is just a spray...you'll see a triangular/trapezium thing between the headlights if a car has them:

 

the verdict is out..mechanic told me water pump is leaking. will also replace the thermostat while at it too...bling bling..

 

The water pump has a wheap hole on the shaft. When the shaft seal goes out, coolant will start to drip out of the hole and pool up on the support bracket until it drips down on the drivers side. Once the seal goes out all together, it will run out much faster. I think the water pump is about $180 from the dealership after a core swap. The thermostat is about $20.

 

thats not a bad price,and I second what Whitey said,dont play around with cooling system.
