w210 e55 need cooling system HELP
I have a '99 E55, that i have been fixing over the last year.... various things. The last thing that I was working on was a radiator replacement, due to a leak.
So, I drained the system (via radiator drain), replaced the radiator, now I have a problem.... I cant get it to refill properly? Specifically I put everything back together, and filled the reservoir with fluid, turned on the car and waited for it to get hot open up the thermo so i can add more fluid and top it off..... never happened. I can't get flow thorough the radiator, and the car gets hot. Never experienced anything like this before.... It does not seem like the fluid is being pumped at all..... I can get about 1 gal of coolant into the system, but i cant get the thermo to open and fill the rest of the system.....
Before i replaced the radiator there were no cooling issues (aside from the leak) .... never overheated, etc.... now this.
Is there anything weird and different about this car that i am unaware of when it comes to coolant replacement, do yo have to bleed it or something.... the M113 has both hose connections on the bottom of the radiator (which is odd) does this have anything to do with it?
Please help if you know anything.
Thanks.

I see 2 possible faults
1. thermostat is broken and stays closed.
2. the water pump impeller broke, what was known problem in the era of plastic impellers.
I had it happen on my diesel and was able to confirm broken impeller via thermostat hole.

I'm with Kajtek on this; at this point I would replace the water pump, the thermostat, and verify the fan clutch is functioning properly.
