biodegradable wiring . . .
biodegradable wiring . . .
Does anyone know what Mercedes models and years had the biodegradable wiring?
A friend was looking at a 1999 e320. After looking at a couple electrical problems we discovered wires that are falling apart. I thought Mercedes stopped using that kind of wiring in 1996. In this car the headlight wiring was a problem and so is the engine wiring. I know there are some that have dashboard wiring that is biodegradable also, but not know what models and years.
I may be looking at updating my car at some point but don't want to get one with this problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Harvey

1) Headlight wiring in known to get fragile for some with heat - there are replacement connectors + harness avail
2) Engine wiring very rugged and not sensitive to degradation under "normal" circumstance... the only cases I have seen on degraded engine wiring has had to do with previously OVERHEATED engines - so if you have degraded engine wiring then be cautious of prior OVERHEATED engine

from the postings of others (i'm not experiencing anything yet with my 99 E320
knock knock) the harness and socket to the city light seems to be the most
frequent failure. next is the fog light....then the main headlight. (my recollection)

Harness on my '99 shows no issues with the exception of the wiring internal to the headlight assemblies. I ended up cutting out the old headlight harness one wire at a time and splicing in a new wire. Took a few hours of my time and I used a trailer electrical wiring harness for the donation wire.
