Sunroof repair

Well I finally got into the sunroof on my sons car. pulled the glass and motor and pulled the cables. both cables were rusted up badly. I knew I was going to need cables, but wanted to make sure everything else was OK. I ended up freeing up the cables by soaking them with PB Blaster. flexed them around for a while and they softened up nicely. I`ll get some new ones this summer. For now I put put the old ones back in and everything works perfectly, smoothly, and quietly. My son will be happy now. the only thing left now is front sway bar bushings and left motor mount.

If you do not have a motor mount tool, you'll want one. Makes it much easier to remove/torque the upper bolt.
The bolt on my '99 E55 has a 16mm head.

Front sway bar bushings can be a PITA. Have a water-based lubricant on hand to allow you to slide the bushings onto the sway bar. I also recommend a puller to pop the end links off the sway bar. And be sure to soak the sway bar end link bolt in Break-Free or equivalent where it threads into the lower control arm. Shop time shows a little over an hour to replace; I spent almost 4 hours on mine... :-P

Thanks on the Motor mount tool tip. I seen them advertised but wondered why I would need it. wouldn't a standard wrench work? with a pry bar? Ive been known to remove bolts/nuts that needed special tools or more things removed with a bit of patience and special use of tools. either way I`ll try it and if I need it I wont be out anything but a bit of time.
