Bought 1999 e320 4 matic need opinions on service .

Ok guys I just bought a 1999 e320 benz with 4 matic with 56000 miles and would like to know what kind of service should be done to it and how often.

Also any info upon tricks to do any of it or info on how to do it.

Before anyone says it my owner manuel just says that the service light comes on when service is required. It doesn't give any time intervals etc.

I also know that all cars have things that need to be done quicker then recomendations and some longer.

So fill me in what should I do and how often.

Also do these cars like synthetic oil or are they prone to leaks.

I'm an aircraft mech so can wrench on my own stuff and actually prefer it!Just some backround info.

Also bought an offbrand manual and it is not very good. What manual should I get???

If you have a service history for the vehicle and it is complete, just follow all the items on the A and B service guides. To do the services completely you will require some specialized equipment, mostly electronic devices to pull the info from the computer in order to trouble shoot properly. Many of the aftermarket devices do not provide detailed enough information to allow you to do this, so, I would suggest a dealer visit when required if for nothing more than a complete computer scan that would allow you to do the required maint. What sort of aircraft do you work on?? I am a retired pilot, both corporate and airline turbine equipment. I really like my 01 E320 4 matic and hope you enjoy yours.

Spent quite a few with a major also, In addition to owning a corporate aircraft sales business(bought, refurbed and resold, plus a dealer for a line of new turboprops). Was not your major though as we never operated 747's. With whats going on in the airline business today I am glad to having it overwith.
