How to improve gas mileage?
Thank you
There is a label on the door jam that should have the recommended tire pressure. Running more pressure can cause the tires to wear unevenly.
Regular maintenance items can help improve your mileage.
- Clean your MAF
- Change your air filter
- Change your spark plugs if they have not been done
- Check and see if the car is throwing any codes
Are you using the right type of gas?
My DD Dodge Durango recently started getting 10mpg no matter how I drove and it felt sluggish. I checked the air filter one day and it was in bad shape. I couldn't remember the last time I'd changed it. Anyway, it felt like a completely different vehicle afterwards and went back up to it's normal 14mpg with mixed driving.
My E63 gets at least 15mpg with all city driving. That's with a 6.2L 507hp V8 in it and I i have a heavy foot.
2. Age/Mileage -
a) Plugs based on age alone spark plugs are due for change - replace ONLY with OE equivalent single electrode platinum 7422 equivalent (like $60 or less) and NOT with any multit-/trickster plug.
b. Fuel system cleanup - buy $13 bottle Stabil Marine fuel stabilizer and dose the tank per instructions - this is to clean up the fuel system from all the ethanol junk - followup with 2nd application (bottle is about 3 applications) in about 5K miles

c. Replace air filter with Mann or Hengst only - about $16 - wipe the inside of the air box clean with the junk in there
d. Based on age/miles consider new/fresh MAF - this Amazon apprears to be genuine and cheap
