Angry Traction Control

I notice upon hard acceleration I get a rude clunk coming from the left front but no yellow light indicating the traction control system activated. It seems the front wheel is braking upon hard accelaration it sounds as if something is going to break.

Also, even though I switch the system off it still activates and you can't say smoke the tires or fishtale the car. How can you really turn it off if say you wanted to REALLY drive your car.

'98' E430

Thanx

I think the 98 E430 has ESP?

If so, even when you hit the ESP button OFF and the triangle lights up, ASR (anti-slip regulation or traction control ) is still there. SO if you have ESP, you cannot get rid of ASR, there forever.

However, if you have an ASR button, then switching that off does kill traction control and now you can smoke your tires

I think the traction control system only applies the rear brakes. You might be having a caliper locking up and you may need to rebuild it. You can never turn off the traction control all of the way even when you turn the switch off. That is a Mercedes safety feature.

I know that with ESP off, ASR is still there.

But when you only have ASR in the car and switch it off, u can do as you please...I've tried this on a 99 c230k with ASR off...wheels just spin freely.

Still Brakes

No mine still tries to control tire spin even when off. Is there a fuse that can be pulled or will that result in system errors?

Speaking of brakes where can you get the Porterfields that produce low dust? Does anyone have a local source in the South Florida area?

If you pull the fuse you will also disable the antilock brakes.
