Question Possible Check Engine Light Cause?

Our '99 W-210 has developed a continuous C E light condition.

This started at the same time as the glow plug indication light starting to stay on.

Car starts and run fine, with no other changes whatsoever!

Any suggestions before I take the KY and head for the dealer?

All suggestions are appreciated.

On my 1997 E420 the CE light comes on every few months. I make sure the gas cap is on tight and the light always go aways after a couple of days.

Had the same problem on my 2000 E320. Brought it back to the dealer and the Oxygen sensors need replacement.

Possible Check Engine Light Cause?

To all who responded, thanks!

It's not a loose gas cap. This is a diesel, and I don't know that having the cap not tight will set the C E light. I did however make sure the cap was tight.

I replaced the MAF, but the C E light still returns.

Found out where NOT to go to have the computer checked for codes.

Penske in West Covina. They only wanted two and one half hours (2 1/2) to do that five minute job. The independant garage that I went to nearby read two codes. He cleared them, but the C E light returned. It took him less than five minutes from the time I walked into his office until he was finished! He thinks the Penske dealership charges $95 per hour for something he did gratis. No matter how many times I asked, he wouldn't take any money for his service! He thinks the problem is the glow plug relay. So I'll order one and see.

Anyhow, thanks for the suggestions.
