Blade key sets off alarm?
Hello.....2002 E430 is my car. Lately my remote has been funky. Push the button and it won't unlock the car, even though I changed the battery. When I use the blade key to unlock the door (I turned the key to the right, or clockwise), the drivers door unlocks, but as soon as I open the door the alarm goes off. Is this normal? I would think the car would realize I had the key, but apparently not. Once I insert the 'fob' into the ignition and start the car, the alarm goes off. Just wondering if the alarm should be going off.
Looks like I may be in the market for a new key from the dealer. I bought one from the dealer for my W202....it was $219.00. Is that about what I should expect to pay for a W210 key. (When I say key, I mean the electronic portion...I won't get a new blade as I have 2 of them already).
$200 isn't so bad as I haven't needed any work or parts for the last 2 years other than oil, tires and rear shocks. 207,000 miles and daily driven 50+ miles everyday. Very reliable, great ride quality, powerful, quiet and good looking. Plan to keep it to at least 300,000 miles.
Thanks for your insight.

Illist, thanks, glad to know that's normal...just obnoxious when in a crowded parking lot and it scares the old lady next me.

1. If the car is locked with the Fob - then Alarm is Activated - and YES - unlocking the car with the key activates the alarm - until alarm is deactivated from the ignition.
2. While in the car - if you manually lock the passenger/rear doors - then lock the driver's door with the key - then unlocking the driver's door with the key does not trip the alarm - because there is no alarm
3. I don't think Original Blade key's from "Original Fob" will not fit the "New Chrome Fob"
4. When you order new "Key" - then you have choice to order Fob and/or order New Style Blade Key

I know that with today's gizmos, reading 300 or 600 pages is not easy, but I have downloaded pdf version on my laptop and scroll via it in times when I have free time.
It is only the remote that can activate/deactivate the alarm.
Emergency deactivation is knob in the ignition.
I bought new chrome knob about 3 years ago for $162. I remember it was like $148 for the knob and $14 for new blade.
All cut/programmed by VIN and nobody wanted to see my car.
The service knobs used to be about $40, but last rumors say they have been discontinued.

i found it odd. Posted on here without reading up....sorry. Next time I will look at the manual.
Turns out my fob is not working, I push the buttons and nothing. I have 2 OTHER fobs...one only unlocks the car but won't start it, and the other will start it but not unlock it. The one that unlocks it works perfectly. My third fob is the one I have been using that (until the other night) did everything fine. It is the new chrome style fob with a blade key. So for now, I have will carry 2 fobs, the one that unlocks the car, and the one that will start it. Pretty soon I'll bite the bullet and get a new fob.
Thanks for all the help, everyone is so helpful.

When fixing the remote can be difficult, the ignition chip has common soldering problem and is relatively easy to fix.
