New Tires

I have a 2000 E320 with stock wheels. I was thinking about putting on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 225/55ZR16 tires. Does anyone have experience with these tires? I was particularly worried about rubbing and also tire noise. Michelin rates them 6 on a scale of 10 for quiet ride. Thanks.

If you are using your OEM 16 inch wheels that size is not a bad fit. The 225/55/16 is a little taller. The 215/55/16 is 25.3 inches tall and the 225/55/16 is 25.7.

The "best" tire size in 16 is actually the 235/50/16. Wider and same height, however, not many tire models in that size. The TireRack has the excellent Dunlop 5000 in 235/50/16 for only $96. Luke@tirerack.com rates the 5000 over the Pilot AS. Michelin tires are great but overpriced. See the Tire Forum this board.

Also the Michelin Pilot Sport tires are very good! They are 2nd best according to Luke's high performance tire test. You can't go wrong with this brand.
