P0455 Fixed! 2001 E320

Just reporting some success to those here looking for a fix for the same problem.
I have finally ended the p0455 code nightmare with a replacement of the solenoid on the charcoal canister.
I have a 2001 E320 AWD Wagon and it was a check engine with a flashing gas light (major evap leak) caused by the solenoid stuck 'open'. I had changed the purge valve under the hood prior.

After running the car for 10 minutes, I shut it off. Stuck on my code reader, turned the engine on and voila! The code had disappeared along with the check engine light! Yay!

2001 e320,
Solenoid part #

Hi, I was wondering if you still have the part number of the solenoid and was it easy to do?

Thank,
Phillip Armenta

Hi Phillip. Sorry I didn’t have a part number for the solenoid but I can tell it was an easy job. You will need new clamps to replace those German snap clamps and you’ll need a hand wrench specialized for those weird clamps. Replace with regular worm clamps, much easier to work with.

In in the end my problem is an extra part most don’t come with. My car was sold in Canada but made in Japan. They put one extra part at the gas tank hose on top of the charcoal canister. That stupid extra part was the cause of all the issues and it’s a 400 dollar replacement. It’s likely you don’t have it.
