Cracked in the same places on my 99 wagon. Rt side of airbag and above defogger vents. I'm over it. I knew going in that buying any 9 year old car would have flaws/issues. The great part is that a 9 year old mercedes will last as long as most new cars and has 90% of the options.

99' E55 with small cracks in dash...

I have about three or four very small cracks in the dash, but cracks none the less. I'm sure it's a fortune to replace the dash. I was wondering if there are any high quality dash mats out there?

Pic's speak a thousand words. 7 years in the Beverly Hills sun. I was too hooked on the torque to notice when I bought it!

I also had the tint done on my wagon just after purchase in March this year. All the tint is uv rated, including the clear tint I had on the front windshield. I had both my 99' wagon and my 92' 190e done for $550. i did not get the tint done on the front glass of the 190. thanks to the guys in Costa Mesa on 17th St. near Placentia. Hopefully the dash on the wagon will stop where its at. I hate dash mats...

COnsider yourself honored. MB's have a long tradition of cracked dashes. It's probably due to the fact that the Design managers in building 59 get a new car every year and don't consider it a quality issue worth fixing. Mine is cracked like everyone else's.
The older models tended to crack when it got colder - some people actually heard the pop - but I'm not sure about our 210's.

I just completed a very simple repair on these pesky cracks. As above they are very unsightly.

I took a folded peice of sand paper (about 150 grit is ok) and used the folded edge to get into the crack. You can mask around the crack to prevent scratching of the dash if you like. Sand it untill the raised edges are flat.

I then used a special silicone based black sealer (I think it's made by car plan, for exterior sealing). Fill the crack and then use your finger with a lot of saliva(I know it sounds silly but it has lubricating qualities...) to smooth it out. While it is still wet take a paper towel and carefully clean the dash surrounding the crack.

It isn't absolutely perfect but it does look sooooo much better than gaping fault lines in you nice dash, and it took me 20 mins to do about 5 cracks.
