vacuum lines

1998 -e320. car sent a p301 code. my mech. fixed a vacuum leak in top front of engine. said the lines going under the manifold are made of rubber.when they fail, the intake manifold has to come off to replace them. expensive. what do they control? my engine is rough at idle, but not all the time.

Thats a good question to ask your mechanic---what did he say when he found the damaged lines----he is an automotive mechanic not bicycles!

he said "when" they fail. after fixing the broken vacuum lines,we thought all good. later it came back. why would mb put rubber vacuum lines under the intake manifold? btw, my mech. has 30 yrs. exp. at a stealership. has own place now.
