An update on this saga with pics and crayon scribble
The two gold bolts hold the gearbox in the track
The assembly is right side up as mounted in the car here
Gearbox is attached to the motor by a couple of bolts
The assembly is upside down here
. I got the seat to move and figured out what is broken. Today a friend and I removed the gearbox in the outboard track that is attached to the fore/aft motor under the seat. With the outboard gearbox supported above the track by small wood blocks, the seat moved via the control panel on the door. The inboard gearbox moved the seat. We were able to remove all four mounting bolts and take the seat from the car for a closer inspection. The outboard gearbox is bolted to the fore/aft motor. We removed the complete assembly from the seat and found a plastic gear in the gearbox broken. The motor is working but the broken plastic gear doesn't engage the metal worm screw as it should. This is why the seat would not budge. It was physically stuck in position by this worm screw engaged by the teeth on the track.
I need the gearbox or just the plastic gear. I looked at MB Wholesale Parts Online and the gearbox is not shown. eBay has motors, but no gearboxes that I saw. Any ideas? I'll check the local dealer on Monday, but I don't have much faith in them.
