Fatter is prettier ??? Yea ???

Within the last two weeks, I was lucky enough to get really good deals on wheel upgrades. It didn't cost me a small forturne as I originally planned.

Both my W210 and W211 now roll with bigger rims & tire. The common thing between Benz (or any sort of nice car) and chick is that nice ones happen to be really costly to own & maintenance. However, as cars get fatter wheels (provided that good taste to pick), they're much better to look at. Fatter chick ??? hmmm, I don't know

Here's picture of my W210 with rolling stock. Btw, W210 with Bilstein HD and 235/45/17 Michelin Pilot Sport handles like a dream car, I love it !!!!.

Here's one with OEM sport wheels upgrade. ChromeTech did an excellent job in chroming (Many thanks to a member of this forum for a great deal).

Here's from another view

I figure, since I got a really good deal on wheels upgrade for my W210 ($450 for rims & VERY good Michelin Sport Pilot, $400 for chrome, $60 for new lugs). May as well to upgrade my W211 wheels. Via eBay, I was able to trade in my W211 OEM wheels, with 800 miles for W211 OEM sport wheels and $900. Not bad huh. Dealer want $3.5K for the upgrade !!!

Here's the stock W211

Here's the upgrade look

Here's another view

Who say marriage nowaday can't last ?

With wheel upgrade, which one handle better ? Well, since my W210 also came w/ suspension upgrade, it handle (lot) better, my favorite car for now.

16" wheels ride better.

Do 17" handle better? Well, they will have sharper turn-in, however that effect can be gained by adding -1/2 deg or so to the front camber. At the limit the tire counts more than its size.

In US urban driving, here in NYC, 17" wheels can be much more prone to pothole damage.

Looks are subjective. Lots of people like the looks of 18s, 19s, and 20s. However I wouldn't want to try them on 10th Avenue.

I love my 18"s. Handles much better and holds tight around curves

The black looks best with chrome.

From what I've heard, the only type of vehicle best for driving in NY is heavy duty truck. Too much pothole ?

Road in southern california isn't that bad. Some part of LA (compton, south LA) have bad road, but at where I live (Orange County), roads are from good to very good.

I would stop at 17". 18" or more would make the wheels to prone to bent & problem.

So far, the ride is more stiff, but handling is considerably better. Look, well, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but ALL comments so far praise it way over the stock 16" one.

I miss the smooth ride of the 16" sometime. But to me, the look & handling worth the upgrade.

They're not really the same, but similar though. One is built for the W211 (14mm), the other is for the W210 (12mm). Face shape is different. I think both look simple, yet sporty.

Personally, I like the one on the W210 more.

Both look wayyyyyyyyyyyy better. I've always liked the 5 spoke look on the E's. But zam, didn't you have those W211 stock rims on the W210 at one stage??????

I have to disagree on the 18" train of thought tho. Depending on the wheel, 18" don't warp easily. The AMG monoblocks are one of the strongest around and the Brabus IV's (same style as the ones on your 210 right now) are equally strong (also the Carlsson 1/5's - if 5 spoke is your preference). If strength is really your concern I don't think you have anything to worry about. Likewise, ride quality does not change all that much going from 17 -----> 18". I've gone from 16" all the way to 19" and the noticeable difference came when I changed from 18's to 19's. But that's JMO.

That was just a picture I saw on the internet, and post & asking for opinion on what you guys think regarding the W210 with W211 wheels. And that was before I bought my W211

Eventually, W210 look best with rims designed for W210, and the same for W211.
