Exclamation Smart Key Woes!

Ok here is the situation. I own a 2001 E200 Kompressor, Euro Spec. My smart key is being very picky now a days. First I had the problem, that it wouldn't work via radio freq. and only work via Infrared. Now I can't start my car. Even though I can lock and unlock the car, when I put the key in the ingnition, I can't turn it and I don't hear the typical selionoid activation sound. ARRGHGHGH!

I tried the reset thing, where you hold the open key for 30 seconds. All that happens the is the windows open then the the doors lock after 20 more seconds. Weird.

Anyone have any experience with this matter? Has it happened to anyone before?

Any feed back would be appreciated

Your RF is working fine, the problem is your infrared. The ignition reads your chip in the key via the infrared window when it is inserted in the hole. Are you sure the lens is not cracked or scratched?????? That is where I would start.

Ok update on what happened.

Called the dealer. They sent a flatbed to pick up the car. They called me later that day and told me the problem is with the key. Apparently the IR module got disconnected (i dropped the key) and they ordered a new one. Gonna cost me the equivelent of 240 USD!!

thanks for your help though, and btw the got codes from Germany and put them into a computer locally, from that they fobbed a new key. Interesting huh? Couldn't that mean u could possibly reprogram a key, maybe it has to be a "virgin" key (kinda like smart cards when the marry satilite recievers)

Oh well, I'm down 240 Bucks but my key is gonna be new!
